Net Operation Part 2 - NCS

Net Control Operation preferences for the net control station may be normally set as shown here. When the NCS wishes to begin net operation s/he also selects the 'Operating in Controlled Net' checkbox.

Selecting both checkboxes opens the Net Control screen shown here. The two buttons at the top of this screen are used to activate (open) and close the net. When the NCS presses the Activate Net button a message is sent that causes the net control features to be displayed on the Main screens of all net members.

Checkin and traffic request messages received from net member stations are displayed in the two list boxes as illustrated here. When a new traffic request is received the requesting station callsign will be added to the list automatically and the list will flash to alert the NCS that a new request has been received.   The NCS can stop the flashing by clicking on the listbox.   The NCS can give permission for a station with pending traffic to send its traffic by double-clicking on the callsign in the left list box.

Callsigns can be removed from either of the list boxes by clicking on the desired entry and then pressing the keyboard Delete key. The complete list of checkins can be cleared by pressing the Clear button.

A broadcast message containing the list of net member checkins can be sent by pressing the Send button. This message is intended to inform all net member stations of the net roster. The broadcast message is addressed to the first of the six broadcast groups. A sample checkin list message is shown here:

The four buttons at the bottom of this screen can send frequently used instructions to all net members.   The textbox above the four buttons can be used to enter a specialized instruction. To send a specialized instruction, enter the instruction into the textbox and press the keyboard Enter key.

Reminder: The TNC MON command must be set ON when operating in net mode.
